And not every doctor who leaves is leaving because they have given up on Nigeria.
Some want better working conditions and remuneration.
Some want specialist training, research opportunities, technology, exposure and experience they may not easily access here.
And some may eventually return with new skills, networks, capital and ideas.
So the conversation shouldn’t only be:
“How do we stop doctors from leaving?”
We should also ask:
How do we make migration a pathway for knowledge exchange rather than a permanent loss?
How do we keep Nigerian doctors in the diaspora connected to Nigeria through mentorship, research, investment, technology, partnerships and training?
Because you can love Nigeria and still want to see the world.
You can leave and still care deeply about home.
Japa isn’t necessarily the end of the story. It can be another chapter.

The worst kind of people are those in miserable marriages who marriage-shame everyone else.
You’re unhappy, emotionally exhausted and fighting for your life at home, but somehow someone else’s singlehood is your biggest concern.
Marriage is not an achievement.
Being single is not a failure.
And staying married is not proof that your marriage is healthy.
Your marriage is your experience. Stop making it everyone else’s prescription. Selah.
But Doctor, why should we put vitamins in seasoning cubes?”
That’s exactly the conversation we should be having.
What nutrients?
What amounts?
For whom?
What evidence?
What safety standards?
What regulatory safeguards?
What food vehicles?
What impact?
And this is why I’m pushing the conversation around mandatory B9 + B12 fortification.
Because hidden hunger requires us to think beyond:
“Tell people to eat better.”
We also need to ask:
“How do we make adequate nutrition more accessible?”
So if we’re serious about tackling hidden hunger, we cannot have a B9-only conversation. We need to think about: B9 + B12.
So, How do we deliver these nutrients to millions of people?
We’ve been talking about folate (Vitamin B9).
But here’s the plot twist:
B9 shouldn’t be having this conversation alone.
Let’s talk about B 12 too. They work closely together in the body when B12 is deficient for a long time, the consequences can go far
WAIT. Before you throw that seasoning cube into your pot…
There’s a vitamin we NEED to talk about.
And no, this isn’t another “seasoning cubes are bad for you” lecture. 😂
This one is about Vitamin B12 and why it belongs in Nigeria’s hidden hunger conversation.
Let’s talk
