When Fear Closes the Gates
No investor brings billions to a country where mobs decide who gets hired.
In June 2026, groups linked to the March and March movement walked into factories in Boksburg, Benoni and City Deep. Cameras on. Demands made. "Fire foreigners".
Call it activism. Call it patriotism.
The boardroom calls it "risk".
And when risk is high, factories close. Orders move to Mexico, to Morocco, to anywhere the gate is not guarded by politics.
The people who marched say they are fighting for South African jobs.
But the result is this: No new jobs. And the existing ones start looking shaky.
VW, BMW, Toyota did not build plants here because we are cheap.
They built here because we promised stability, law, and rules.
The moment we replace law with a mob, we replace investment with exit.
You can be angry about unemployment.
But you cannot fix unemployment by scaring away the people who employ.
Law must be enforced. By police. By Home Affairs. By courts.
Not by a group with a megaphone and a deadline.
Because when the last plant shuts, it won’t be Jacinta who loses her job.
It will be 10,000 workers in Uitenhage, Rosslyn, and Durban.
That’s not justice. That’s self-sabotage.
