@newestherald@ThatComicFan3 The specific unit/exam paper is known as Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Subsidiary (IAS): Unit 2: Language in Transition. Here are some screenshots of practice essays and notes I did and stuff like that, I unfortunately don't have my actual mock exam.
@flylofm69 Yeah and bully used to mean darling. I was unfamiliar with the term, which is why I asked. Maybe if you were curious enough to ask sometimes before you speak we wouldn't have to have this conversation.

@nyaraVT No no see I'm sure this is very specifically targeting anyone NOT in those groups they'll never be harmed because they are "the good ones" clearly.
@wtfyae@Freshlime619 words that originated from AAVE and you can easily get exposed to through the internet or even spoken English classes. I think the vast majority of global people who use these terms were never aware it was AAVE and don't seek to hurt people.
@wtfyae@Freshlime619 AAVE itself as a dialect of global english/as part of language studies, I did learn in school, it's very much available and you really don't need to be actively trying to learn AAVE to be exposed to language from it. Highkey, Lowkey, Cool, Hip, these are all relatively common use
@dykefightnight@bigl3sbiancrush naturally without meaning to run rampant. I think some people have reacted badly because they felt they were being treated as racists and malicious actors because they used language they thought and learned as natural from International English exposure.
@dykefightnight@bigl3sbiancrush My argument has never been specifically about protecting people who intentionally want to attack you by misusing your language. I am focusing on trying to show that really, AAVE has become so united with Global English that many people use it
@huggableheartz@Freshlime619 AAVE itself as a distinct dialect I did not learn as spoken English but AAVE is so integrated into global English, that separating it is not really possible. I did still learn about AAVE as part of global englishes, something that I did in a school environment.
@newestherald@ThatComicFan3 I don't think it's exactly the same but I get the comparisons. My words are more so about "This is why people speak like that, I don't think it's actively malicious and treating it like it is isn't helping the issue." But yes, some of the use of AAVE on the internet is too much.
@bigl3sbiancrush At the end of the day, this is your language and your culture, not mine, and I avoid misusing it when I can, but I think it's a far better solution to spread awareness and education about AAVE and its appropriate use than it is to attack users who may just be ignorant.
@bigl3sbiancrush Fundamentally I think it's a question of "can you separate AAVE from global language enough to stop using it?" And I don't think you can, realistically speaking. This is not dismissing your opinions.
@newestherald@ThatComicFan3 it's fair to people to go after them for not knowing AAVE's history and origins, rather, I believe it should be a more integral part of global English education as a whole.
@newestherald@ThatComicFan3 they use to learn English. I myself, alongside my teachers, learned most of my English from movies, the internet, video games and TV, all of which use a lot of AAVE inspired speech and I know a lot of other people did as well. People should learn more about AAVE but I don't think

@sengrahamresign@ThatComicFan3 I am surprised it's not required learning in the slightest since so much of modern media, language, and basically the internet itself uses so much of AAVE. I'd be frustrated as well if such a huge part of my language was something you had to go searching for to learn.
