@3Sentinel4 Reliant/NRG isn’t being glazed because of its screens. If you asked the average Euro fan which stadium they could take back with them I doubt many would choose Jerry World or even Mercedes Benz if pressed. They’d take NRG, Hard Rock, or any of the Mexican stadiums.
What Americans are completely misreading about the stadium discourse is that Europeans don’t give a shit about Jumbotrons and luxury amenities. Reliant Stadium is only considered “obsolete” by the billionaire owners who want more luxury suites and exclusive clubs.
@redlight516@ClueHeywood Every sport is boring if you don’t understand it. Except you don’t hear people constantly sharing their unsolicited opinions about how boring baseball is. Mainly because not enough people care enough to have an opinion.
@DWJDuck@landondonovan It’s why Southwest can openly get shittier right in front of our eyes while they openly admit they’re doing things shittier now and still their profits go up. What else are you gonna do, take a non-existent high speed train?
@censoredhorn Dummies think newness, sheer size, and luxury amenities make a great stadium. Anyone with eyes can objectively see that NRG is an optimal sports viewing experience. Half the stands in Kyle Field can’t see shit. At DKR you hike up a goddamn mountain to get to the upper level!
@HoustonSwisha@Thereal2tz@afc_thms@peteypablo_ Open your eyes wider. It’s clear that what’s going in is completely different priorities. Soccer fans don’t need bells and whistles and sideshows. They go to watch the game. They also don’t need luxury amenities like American billionaire owners do. Is that what you really prefer?
@KequeMage@ratxgurl Literally me when I got lost in bumfuck Mississippi, the bridge on the road I was on was washed out, I had no signal or GPS, and no idea how to get back to the interstate. Saw a black family and immediately felt immense relief.
@TheLawGiraffe@FailedRift Nearly all and public funds represent the majority of funding for those that do. Arenas like Intuit in LA that are completely privately funded are incredibly rare. This is very obvious.
@cityphil73@kylekirms Since you brought up NCAA, yes it’s much more similar to European soccer in terms of its inequality and having a select few elite teams that realistically have a chance. And it’s only growing larger with NIL. I was only talking professional but thanks for proving my point.
@cityphil73@kylekirms So you really think the gap between the Dodgers and Guardians is comparable to that between Bayern Munich and Mainz? Or between Barcelona and Espanyol? To say nothing of the bottom feeders. Absurd comparison. Experience doesn’t automatically give you good judgment.
@cityphil73@kylekirms American sports fan should acknowledge that the social welfare and socialistic protections put in place are why we have such high levels of parity and competition. European soccer is free market capitalism and that leads to select elite teams surrounded by minnows.
@cityphil73@kylekirms The gap between the Dodgers and Guardians pales to that between top European football clubs and even their mid table peers. It sounds like you’re just not familiar with soccer because this is blindingly obvious and one of the most concerning aspects of soccer honestly.
@CoachGilly6 They not only overturned the original call but they gave the flopper a yellow card! This is what the NBA needs!!! It’s actually insane how shitty American officials are compared to the cream of the crop soccer refs. You can clearly notice the quality and the game benefits from it
@kaitybella More and more I’ve noticed that the server will just leave the little machine behind at the table while they go off and serve other tables.
@kylekirms Understand that soccer is much more capitalist than American sports so there is a much higher level of inequality in the club game. Imagine if the Lakers had a whole set of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string bench players who could easily start for just about any other team in the league.
@UrbanExplorer00 Every NFL fan says this is the worst stadium in the league. As someone who’s never been this is baffling because the inside looks amazing. Jerry World by comparison is architecturally impressive but completely soulless.
@PaulDeathwish@TheCivic The east side still likely wouldn’t have developed. Philly’s stadiums are surrounded by parking lots, but on the other hand, the Spurs likely wouldn’t be asking for another brand new arena. The 76ers did, got shut down yet have zero intentions of leaving so there was little risk.
@PaulDeathwish@TheCivic To be fair, all of those arenas with the exception of Philly are right in the city center. And Philly has phenomenal access to one of the main subway lines, even though you have to walk through parking lots to get to it. The Frost Bank Center could have had that.
