DILLON’S DIRTY MASKS ROAD DIARIES
. DRIFTER
Episode 3 “happily married”. Travel these dirty roads long enough and you begin to recognize the masks people wear-including your own. @2daddiesdickin1 Geoff and Areik Coxxx
Being authentic means aligning what I think, what I feel, what I believe, and how I behave. It means knowing who I am well enough that I no longer need to manufacture an image for somebody else.
Authenticity isn’t perfection. It is having the courage to remove the protective masks and allow myself to be seen as I actually am strengths, flaws, history, mistakes, lessons and all. I listen to my core. I pay attention to my feelings, my limitations, and the values that guide my life.
I don’t have everything figured out. I never have, and I probably never will. That’s part of remaining teachable. I’ve learned to drop the mask. I don’t need to pretend that I haven’t made mistakes. I don’t need to rewrite my history to make myself look better today. My history belongs to me. The good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly have all contributed to the man I have become.
Understanding my past also helps me recognize where fear, insecurity, and people-pleasing once influenced my decisions. I talk openly about those things, even when other people don’t necessarily like hearing them. At 64, I don’t spend much time worrying about what other people think about me.
What matters far more is what I think about myself when nobody else is watching. Did I tell the truth? Did I behave with integrity? Did my actions match my words?
Those are questions I may actually do something about. I trust myself to make decisions based on what fits my life and my principles rather than what earns somebody else’s approval. I don’t need to lie to kick it.
I don’t need to manufacture a story to make myself bigger. I don’t need another man’s accomplishments to make mine meaningful. My responsibility begins with me. And strangely enough, the better I become at taking responsibility for myself, the more available I become to my brothers. I may extend a hand without trying to control where they go.
I will share my experience without pretending I have all the answers. May love another man without losing myself in the process. That’s authenticity. No costume. No performance. No mask. Just a man continuing to learn who he is and trying each day to make his actions match his principles. And underneath all of it, I am a grateful man.
I remind myself of that when I wake up in the morning, and I remind myself again before I lay my head down at night. I don’t want for much of anything. I already have more than I once imagined possible-and, in many ways, more than I ever knew to ask for.
When you finally become comfortable with the man underneath the mask, you discover something wonderful: There isn’t much reason to put the mask back on. 🎥🛸🌵🎭🦉🤠🎥🎭🦉🤠🎥🎭🦉🛸🌵🎭🦉
