My impression upon meeting @AssilHalimi was that he was obsessed. But not in the same way as every other great founder. He had a different gear and an undeniable aura of seriousness that made him feel impossible to doubt.
Every step of his life story, from his upbringing in Algeria, to his work on SMRs in France and his research at MIT, all pointed towards founding Apollo Atomics.
My team and I are grateful to be a very small part of his story that is just getting started.
Back to work.
Today, we are announcing our $31M seed financing at Apollo Atomics.
The $26M equity is led by FCVC with participation from Y Combinator, TeleSoft Partners, Alumni Ventures, Pelion Venture Partners, Duke Capital Partners, Robinhood Ventures, and Nucleation Capital. $5M of equipment financing is provided by Oak Ridge Financial.
Apollo Atomics is the only nuclear company that can deliver high power output nuclear reactors (>80 MW) on a truck. The higher power density is the strongest argument for cost effectiveness and mass manufacturing in the nuclear industry today. We achieve this without relying on exotic/scarce fuel, unqualified materials, or high regulatory uncertainty.
Achieving that goal is a mirage if you don’t build the right company. With Drew Walker, we have assembled an extremely talent dense team with Excellence, Intensity, and Execution at its core. We are running a low power reactor demonstrator within MIT and now building a full scale 1 MW reactor prototype under commercial reactor conditions. We work directly with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to support a commercial deployment in 2028.
Apollo Atomics is not hardware in vacuum, we are building software solutions for autonomous reactor control, licensing support, and reactor modeling to reduce OpEx and deployment timeline.
Deeply grateful to our early investors for supporting our mission when no one else believed particularly Genesis Fund, Arjun Gupta, and New Era Ventures, to our early supporters within Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund Program, TNT, MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering.
Excited to have many brilliant individual investors supporting our mission including Paul Graham, Evan Meagher, CFA, Philip Johnston, Ray Rothrock, Matteo Franceschetti
