Too many conversations with friends and colleagues lately have been about analysis paralysis stalling effective decision making. Even on high performing teams, the need to “think things right” and needlessly pontificate before doing anything often has leaders looking at their calendars astonished by the amount of time wasted.

I admit, it’s a personal frustration of mine. Why can’t we disagree through the design process? Why does alignment need to come at the expense of execution? Experimentation and iteration have risks, but with risks comes learning.

Thinking-and-doing, creating radical optionality, and adopting customization (through systems, processes and practices) can yield faster execution, greater opportunities to reconceptualize, and more flexibility in what we’re getting after.
