? scoups was exempt (acl tear), mingyu (back pain) wonwoo (legally blind) vernon (asthma) jeonghan (more broken bones than sane ones) are doing alternative service, all the rest are in active duty service. the fact some are skilled enough to be accepted in the band/taekwondo team isn't something that makes them LESSER than the others, they're still active duty soldiers AND athletes/musicians on top of it (and hoshi+woozi didn't try for the band simply bc they were touring when the selections were being held). four out of 12 serving members doing alternative service is perfectly reasonable, especially since two of those members have medical issues that had been there since birth, hence they would OF COURSE had been excepted from active duty no matter their profession (ww's poor sight and vn's asthma). mingyu's and jeonghan's alternative service is mostly due to the wear and tear of being a VERY active idol for 10+ years at ~30 years of age, which is again, expected. if you know enough about seventeen to be aware of exactly where each member is currently stationed you also know enough to understand why each member serves/will serve the way they do/will, without acting as if they're stealing anything from anyone. im confused also, weren't you guys jumping on the spot at the idea of svt being out of your field of vision for as long as possible? why would you be mad mingyu will take a few extra months to come back?

for carats who don’t know why mingyu is serving in alternative service, it’s because he first publicly suffered a back injury in 2016. at the time, it was just minor pain, but in 2023, he suffered from severe and chronic lower back pain, including an incident in late 2023 that required him to temporarily halt his activities with the group. he may look healthy because of how active he was, but pain is still pain, and he had to serve through alternative service because of it.
