“Smooth” is a collaboration between legendary guitarist Carlos Santana and Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas, featured on Santana's 1999 album Supernatural. Written by Thomas and Itaal Shur, the Latin-infused rock track became a monumental global phenomenon, spending 12 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #1 in Canada and becoming a major hit worldwide. Its infectious guitar riff and passionate vocals fueled one of the most remarkable commercial comebacks in modern music.

Incredibly, despite being a rock icon since the late 1960s, this was Santana's first-ever #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, achieved when he was 52 years old. Rob Thomas originally envisioned George Michael as the song's vocalist, but ultimately recorded it himself, creating one of the most successful collaborations in pop-rock history. The track swept the 2000 Grammy Awards, winning Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while helping Santana earn nine Grammy Awards in a single night, tying the record previously set by Michael Jackson's Thriller.
