This year, a 254,000 pound Mobile Transformer Unit traveled 2,000 kilometres from Winnipeg to Orillia Transmission Station.
Built by PTI Transformers, Canada’s largest 100% Canadian owned transformer manufacturer and a long time Hydro One supplier, the unit is now in place as a critical backup for planned station upgrades.
The result: stronger grid resilience and reliable power for Orillia and Simcoe County now and for the future.
“Every transformer we build is designed and manufactured in Canada, by Canadians. Delivering this Mobile Transformer Unit to Orillia is a proud moment for our team and a reflection of the trust we've built with Hydro One over many years of working together.” – George Partyka, CEO, PTI Transformers.
Working with Canadian suppliers like PTI helps us invest locally and keep communities powered, safely and reliably.

Hydro One and five First Nations are now 50-50 partners in the Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line, the historic first transmission line delivered through Hydro One’s industry-leading First Nation Equity Partnership Model.
In this video, project partners reflect on a milestone 50/50 equity partnership and what it means for communities, stewardship, and future generations.
What started as a community conversation is becoming a reality.
During meetings with residents, community partners and local elected representative about the Merivale Transformer Station modernization project in Ottawa, a splash pad emerged as a priority for local families. Hydro One joined residents, community leaders and elected officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Medhurst Park splash pad in Ottawa's Tanglewood community.
"Supporting local priorities is an important part of how Hydro One works with the municipalities and communities that host our critical electricity infrastructure. Projects like this create lasting benefits for local residents." ~ Bonnie Hiltz, vice president, government and stakeholder relations.
Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.
At Hydro One, we recognize that reconciliation requires more than words. It calls for continued learning, relationship-building and meaningful engagement with Indigenous Peoples and communities.
Earlier this month, employees had the opportunity to hear from Indigenous author, broadcaster and storyteller Jesse Wente. Through powerful reflections on truth, storytelling and reconciliation, Jesse encouraged us to consider the role each of us can play in building a more inclusive and respectful future.
As we mark this day, we reflect on the lasting impacts of colonial policies and practices, deepen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives and reaffirm our commitment to ongoing learning, meaningful action and stronger relationships built on respect and trust.

Not long ago, many of the people in this photo had never climbed a tree. Now look at them. 🌳
This Forest Week, we're celebrating our forestry apprentices who began a rewarding journey to become Utility Arborists.
Taken earlier this year in Barrie, the photo captures forestry apprentices and trainers coming together after weeks of learning, growth and teamwork. Today, they're developing the skills needed to safely manage vegetation around powerlines and help keep customers across Ontario connected.

Yesterday in Walkerton, we joined the community to celebrate the opening of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo. To power this five-day event, our crews installed 228 poles, 48 transformers and built nearly 14 kilometres of power lines.
For more than 20 years, our teams have proudly built and operated the temporary electrical grid supporting 500 vendors and an expected 100,000 visitors.
Wonderful to share the grounds with community leaders, elected officials and volunteers. Thank you to Premier Doug Ford @fordnation, Minister @samoosterhoff, Minister @LisaThompsonPC, Minister Stephen Lecce @Sflecce and Associate Minister Matthew Rae @Rae_Matt.

The tractors are back, but first: lights on. Ahead of next week's International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, Hydro One crews are helping transform an empty field into a fully energized event site. Here's a sneak peek from IPM Media Day, featuring world plowing champion Tom Evans and the return of Team Farmall's square dancing tractors. #IPM2026
Our lunch hour looked a little different this week.
Employees came together to assemble kits for CNIB's Inclusive School Program, helping create more inclusive learning experiences for children with sight loss.
Small acts of giving can make a meaningful difference, and we're grateful to support organizations that are helping build stronger, more accessible communities across Ontario. 💙
This act of care was made possible through our employee-giving program, Power to Give that empowers employees to support the charities and causes they care about most.
What happens when learning moves beyond four walls?
At Seventh Fire Junior High in Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation, students are trading screen for campfires, canoes and real-world experiences through the Get Outside program, supported by Hydro One. The program provides hands-on experiences that foster connection, personal growth and a deeper understanding of the natural world. Hear from program lead Jacky Chan on the impact these outdoor experiences are having on youth.

Generator safety starts with proper use. Keep generators outside and away from your
home, windows, doors and vents to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Never connect a generator directly to your home’s wiring or electrical panel unless a proper
transfer device has been installed by a licensed electrical contractor.
Backfeeding can energize utility lines and seriously injure or kill utility workers and others.
Outage restoration continues:
Crews are out in full force restoring power after Wednesday’s severe storms caused outages across southwestern, central, and eastern Ontario. Additional outages occurred yesterday as thunderstorms moved through parts of southwestern Ontario, creating new restoration challenges in some areas.
Additional resources have been deployed to help restore power in the hardest hit areas. For outages where damage has been assessed, estimated times of restoration (ETRs) are available. ETRs may change as crews continue to uncover additional damage as repairs are being made.
If you see a downed power line, stay at least 10 metres back and report it to 911 and Hydro One. If you are using a generator, ensure that it is outside, far from any windows or vents.
