This is a very interesting new paper linking the rapid acquisition of a drug resistant phenotype in a novel fungal pathogen to increases in temperature. Climate change could expedite AFR evolution. @eurconfmedmycol @ISHAM_Mycology @BritSocMedMyc
Congratulations to the recent @hyland_lab graduates, Sadia Biswas (MSci Biochemistry, first class honours) and Dr. Veronika Toth, PhD Molecular Parasitology.
I’m so proud of both of you.
….and thank you Sadia for the awesome mushroom pin!

Thanks to all who attended and organised the 2024 IFS Annual Conference, this year showcased some of the most exciting fungal research from Ireland!
A special thanks to the IFS president since 2019, Dr. Kevin Kavanagh, who will be passing the role onto Dr. Johannes Wagener.
Hyland lab out in force at the @IrishFungalSoc annual meeting 2024 @QUBelfast. Well done to @Caelainn_McA for best poster prize of the meeting, as well as both Sreyashi Acharjee and Jessica Allison for excellent presentations.
Amelia @AmeliaBarberPhD is giving quite a talk looking for genomics and community features associated with generalist vs specialist microbes

Attended this wonderful event that recognized QUB's position as a leader in #GenderEquality in higher education within the UK. #LoveQUB
It was extra special that the two female leaders of government here in Northern Ireland were also present to acknowledge QUB's success.

Festivities were in the air today at Queen's as we hosted a celebration event in honour of being awarded the prestigious @Athena_SWAN Gold status for our work in promoting #GenderEquality in higher education.
The landmark achievement positions us as the second university in the UK and the first on the island of Ireland to receive the distinguished accolade.
Over 400 guests, including students, staff, alumni, and community leaders joined us, including the First Minister @moneillsf, and deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland @little_pengelly, who offered their perspectives on the broader impact of gender equality initiatives within the region.
We hope you all enjoyed the celebrations!

Wonderful day hosting Dr. Alessandra da Silva Dantas @alesdantas from Newcastle University @NclFungalGroup at @QUBbioscience learning all about the impact of aging on antifungal resistance in Candida albicans. Thanks to the @BritMycolSoc for facilitating our initial interaction!
Back at the bench isolating fungal pycnidia! Having fun learning about this wheat fungal pathogen with the Stukenbrock lab at Kiel University. Excited to take this back to @QUBbioscience to dissect some of its virulence mechanisms.
