One contaminated source contaminates everything in that bag, and that bag goes to stores in dozens of states simultaneously.

This is not the first time the industrial food system failed us.

The 2006 E. coli spinach outbreak came from a single California farm and sickened people in 26 states because of exactly this consolidation model.

The same happened with Grimmway Farms, the private equity backed company controlling 65% of America's carrot supply, whose organic baby carrots sent 48 people to hospitals across 19 states in 2024, proving that even the organic label offers no protection when the scale is industrial.

Our food system is designed for corporate profit, not safety, and the longer the supply chain the more invisible the risks become.

Ever since learning about all these hidden risks, I've switched to a safer shorter supply chain by purchasing greens directly from a farmer near me on Localize.
