Berlin votes left. Die Linke becomes the leading political force in the German capital.

Those who followed Elif Eralp's campaign over the past months sensed that something exceptional was happening. Thousands of @dieLinke volunteers canvassed the neighborhoods. Door to door. Building to building. With one central question: what keeps people awake at night?

For hundreds of thousands of Berliners, the answer is clear: rent.

@ElifEralpBerlin made this the heart of her campaign. Making rents affordable. Confronting the power of real estate giants like Vonovia. Respecting the results of the referendum in which more than a million Berliners voted for the socialization of large real estate portfolios. And giving tenants the means to act: thanks to Die Linke's Mietwucher-App, more than 66,000 cases of potentially illegal rents have already been reported. One case even led this year to the conviction of a landlord.

Of note: Die Linke also drew inspiration from the @DemSocialists (Democratic Socialists of America) campaign in New York, which led to the election of Zohran Mamdani. The DSA, like Die Linke, were in fact our guests last week at @manifiesta_be. The goal? Working together to understand how to run victorious campaigns, by transforming major political themes into concrete actions: rents, grocery shopping, transportation, then organizing thousands of volunteers to discuss them directly with residents, door to door.

New York and Berlin are two very different cities, just like Brussels. But the similarity is striking: politics begins with the daily problems of millions of people. It is not just about talking about tenants and workers, but about organizing them so they can impose change themselves.

As early as January, Elif had announced that @dielinkeberlin would invest massively in the neighborhoods, organize tenant assemblies, and connect neighbors with one another to fight the power of large real estate developers. So it was not a simple last-minute slogan. It was the method of the entire campaign.

And today, Die Linke comes out on top in Berlin.
