“I struggle to see a way forward for Welsh rugby…”
.@Jamiehuwroberts and @BrianODriscoll weigh up the centralised and benefactor models in rugby around the world and why it feels as though the sport is currently treading water in the country 🏴
The Welsh rugby crisis as summed up by a player who has been in the trenches for 16 years and almost 350 matches for @scarlets_rugby@Cardiff_Rugby and Wales. And still going strong.
Amanda Blanc quit in November 2021 because she felt she was "not being listened to" and the WRU "needed modernisation".
Steve Phillips does not get to play the "before my time" card.
My suggestion for how the William-Harry altercation could have been defused:
Meghan: “William what have you done? Have you seen the dog bowl?”
William: “Seen the dog bowl? I’ve never even seen him bat.” 😉🏏
I would recommend a ‘Question Time’ type Scrum V program with representatives from the WRU to include 2 of the 8 community club men from the board, Steve Phillips and Ieuan Evans.
Let the public watch a good debate between those opposing to/voting for change.
There obviously needs to be a coaching change for Wales. But the main pressure coming from the Welsh media/fans should really be on CEO Steve Phillips, the WRU Board, and the clubs who refuse to allow progress. The whole sport is crumbling.
We'll see who has morals this week.
Here's an interesting social media experiment.
If you're part of a village team in Wales with a WRU vote.
Reply to this with which way you voted on reform.
Did you vote for or against?
