Independence Day is a reminder that America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ America is owned by no one. It belongs to all citizens. And at this moment in history—when core democratic principles seem to be continuously under attack, when too many people around the world have become cynical and disengaged—now is precisely the time to ask ourselves tough questions about how we can build our democracies and make them work in meaningful and practical ways for ordinary people.
You know who LOVES discipline in schools?
The other 29 kids in a classroom that aren’t throwing furniture or cussing out their teachers, want to learn, and want a break from the chaos of their misbehaving peers
Students cannot be allowed to act however they want in classrooms.
There must be accountability for actions. We are not preparing students for the workforce if they are allowed to be disrespectful in classrooms.
This is also true at home. Parents must be parents.
I appreciate and want to give a shout out to all the school leaders who understand that there are some behaviors which go beyond the limits of classroom management, and no amount of patience or strategy from the teacher can address them alone. When verbal abuse or especially physical aggression enters the classroom, it’s not a reflection of the teacher’s failure but of a deeper issue that demands support from the entire school community. Teachers need strong systems in place—administrators, counselors, behavior specialists, and parents—working together to ensure that both students and teachers are supported. No teacher should feel isolated or blamed when facing challenges that require a collective solution.
