Brother Falz, but how do you define love?

To the radical Islamist, love for his religion is when he kills innocents in the name of Allah.

To King Leopold II who killed 10 million Africans, love for his country meant millions of dead black people.

To the Nazis, love for their country meant the genocide of 6 million Jews.

To the gay man, it’s having hazardous sex with another man.

To the trans person, love is being allowed in women’s bathroom even though it harms them since he’s a man.

To the MAP (Minor Attracted Person), love is when they are allowed to sexually violate children.

To the liberal feminist, loving herself is the right to abort as many babies as possible.

We could go on and on, Falz. But love without an objective reference is not real. It is cataclysmic.

Anyone can simply bring up a definition and you won’t be able to contest it. On what grounds would your love be more loving than theirs?

So, to define and understand love, we look to a source that transcends us in every way. We look to Him to see what love is.

And it is this - that God sent His only Son to save those who hated Him.

Look at what Jesus did. He suffered our suffering. He died our death. The punishment due to us was inflicted upon Him.

And His own righteousness was given to us. Who dies for what He hasn’t done?

Who suffers for those who hate Him? But the Bible said-

Isaiah 53:5
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Falz, look at this, the magnitude. You’re lawyer. The person you’re prosecuting killed three teenage girls and four pregnant women.

Defrauded 14 pensioners of their money which led to their death due to shock.

He turned off the power in a hospital and all the babies in incubation died.

Now you were successful in convicting him and the state gave a death penalty after excruciating torture.

Imagine someone comes along and say he’s willing to suffer on his behalf so that he’d be free because he acted under forces beyond him.

That’s a fraction of what Jesus did for the world. We were all worse than your fictional defendant.

But He became sin for us, so that we may have life in God. That’s love.

This made the apostle Paul say -

Romans 5:7–8

“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

This is love, dear brother. So, if the God who gave His son to save you says fornication is a sin, then to show that you love Him, you obey it.

He will punish all sins. Love is obeying God. But to those who obey Him, eternal life in Christ kept in the heavens.

This is the Christian hope.

Finally, love has a definition. It is obeying God:

John 14:15
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
