🚨BREAKING: I’m officially the Democratic Nominee for Iowa’s Gubernatorial race. Join me in making history by defeating Kim Reynolds and helping me become the first Black woman to become Governor in our nation.
I remember standing in the IA Capitol explaining what an ectopic pregnancy was to my then State Sen. (he didn’t know how proposed abortion restrictions would impact, because he didn’t know what it was)…and I thought, “why is he the one making these decisions?”
#runforoffice
Governor Reynolds and Republican politicians are hellbent on removing the freedom to choose from Iowa’s constitution.
A strong majority of Iowans support safe and legal abortion. We cannot go back.
if the entire federal government, elected or bureaucratic, refuses to do anything — ever — to protect the rights of vulnerable people and only caters to interests of the wealthy and a vocal minority, why do we have one?
And so we must resist, we must defend our democracy and the Republic from those who would take us to a dark place of autocracy, demagoguery, and repression. The stakes are too high, the cost too great. We must mobilize, and we must defeat this scourge. NOW. #Register#Vote /end
If we do not vote in November, if we do not HOLD THE LINE NOW, then the spiral of chaos will continue. The Republicans are under the spell of misinformation. They believe an entirely different reality, just as the Russian people do over Ukraine. They can be led to do anything. /5
We cannot remain complacent. Sure, the economy remains uncertain due to global inflation, a lingering covid pandemic, and a war by Russia in Ukraine. But that does not mean we take our eyes off the ball. The GOP is exploiting and exacerbating all this for political gain. /4
We’re horrified, saddened, and livid. If you are too, then now is the time to show up and show them our movement won't back down from protecting our reproductive rights.
Tomorrow, at 5pm your local time, we’re rallying across America for abortion rights: https://t.co/sqXWyOs9He
While Iowa has been experiencing one of the worst teacher shortages in years, Kim Reynolds is trying to pass a private school voucher plan that will exacerbate the issue.
RT if you agree we should be investing in our public schools instead of giving up on our teachers.
Kim Reynolds is so committed to the private school vouchers scam, she's threatening to support primaries against Republicans who don't back her.
Vouchers are bad policy and this is a truly unprecedented move.
Folks, @ChuckGrassley just launched his first attack ad against me.
He called me: "too radical for Iowa."
Senator, what's really radical is being in office for 60 years and STILL thinking you're the solution.
She didn’t want medals. She didn’t aspire to championships or a college scholarship or a place on an Olympics team. Gavy, like 99.9% of Iowa high school athletes, just wanted to play on a team with her friends.
Billionaires be like “the extreme far left is taking over” when the “extreme far left” in the US is “medicine shouldn’t bankrupt you,” “wages should cover rent,” & “maybe it’s bad that Wall St companies profit off mass surveillance, manufactured housing crises, and caging people”
how are we supposed to live in a world where our thoughts, our emotions, our creativity and our very deep core human traits—both good and bad—are filtered, exploited, commodified, and monetized at every possible moment? what is the meaning of life when its hidden behind paywalls?
Reader on latest by @DMRevans: "We all know that those on the 'religious (Christian) right' would be having conniption fits if a Muslim coach were to offer prayer to Allah on the 50-yard line or at mid-court of a football or basketball game." https://t.co/vRhs3m9eri
The far left in America isn't like the far left elsewhere. It's not like they're calling for proletarian revolution. More like healthcare for all and police accountability.
The far right in America, however, acts like the far right elsewhere. Political violence is at their core.
