Continuing his catechetical series on the Dogmatic Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, Pope Leo XIV reflects on the elements of the Rite and active participation:
“The Rite of the Christian liturgy is the ecclesial mediation through which the divine gift reaches us. In the liturgy, we are invited to participate, body, mind, and heart, and enter into a dimension inhabited by the Holy Spirit. In order to enter into this dimension, the liturgy is woven with signs and symbols that have a performative and transformative dimension.
For example, kneeling is a sign of our worship of God. While exchanging the sign of peace, points to our ecclesial communion.
Further, signs help us to recall the constitutive acts of the Sacraments, as when we are sprinkled with holy water, we remember our commitment to Christ.
As we prepare for the solemnity of Corpus Christi, may each of us reawaken our openness to an encounter with God by rediscovering the signs and symbols of the sacred liturgy.”

Pope Leo XIV ordained four priests as new Auxiliary Bishops for the Diocese of Rome during Mass at the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran: Stefano Sparapani, Alessandro Zenobbi, Andrea Carlevale, and Marco Valenti. In his homily, the Holy Father urged them to be “men of peace and unity,” close to the faithful, clergy, religious, and all those on the margins, reminding them that no one is excluded from God’s love or from the life of the Church.

Currently available in Italian, the book will be released in several languages in the coming months and is currently being translated in 30 countries around the world.
The “Day of the Four Popes” refers to April 27, 2014, a remarkable event in the history of the Catholic Church. On that day, Pope Francis canonized Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II, while Pope Benedict XVI was also present.
It marked the first time that two living Popes took part in the canonization of two former Popes, bringing together a reigning Pope, a Pope emeritus, and two new saints in one extraordinary celebration at the Vatican.
This historic occasion reflected the unity and continuity of the Church, honoring John XXIII, known for initiating the Second Vatican Council, and John Paul II, widely remembered as the “Pope of the Family.”
