AN INNOCENT LIFE CUT SHORT. JUSTICE FOR LAURA WESONGA MUST NOT WAIT
I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Ms. Laura Wesonga, a KMTC Busia Campus student, who was fatally shot during a police operation in Marachi Estate, Busia Town yesterday evening. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, fellow students, and the people of Busia.
The police have a constitutional duty to protect life. No law enforcement operation should result in the loss of innocent lives. Every operation must be conducted with professionalism, restraint, and full respect for the Constitution.
I therefore call for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation by @IPOA_KE with any officer found responsible held fully accountable. The @NPSOfficial_KE operations should be intelligence led, professional policing that protects innocent citizens while firmly dealing with crime.
The political temperatures in Busia must cool down immediately. I urge political leaders across Busia and the wider nation to fully embrace democracy. In a democracy, dissent is a right. Not everyone must support you. Using hired goons to intimidate rivals and settle political scores is primitive, illegal, and unacceptable.
#JusticeforLauraWesonga must be swift, transparent, and uncompromising. The people of Busia deserve security, accountability, and respect for the sanctity of human life.
The cockroach voted for the insecticide because it hated the ant. The cricket abstained. The fly stayed home. When the spraying began, everyone discovered a painful truth: consequences do not recognize supporters, abstainers, or bystanders.
That is the danger of apathy, neutrality, and voting driven by resentment rather than reason. In the end, the consequences of bad decisions are rarely selective. They reach everyone.
