The killings in Benue State reflect both local grievances and national failures. A sustainable solution must be multi-dimensional, combining security, justice, land reform, and community engagement. Piecemeal or one-sided approaches will only deepen mistrust.
President Bola Tinubu has signed into law a record ₦54.99 trillion budget for 2025, nearly doubling the previous year's ₦27.5 trillion allocation. This substantial increase aims to drive economic growth, enhance infrastructure development, and manage fiscal obligations. The budget reflects the government's commitment to economic expansion and addressing national financial challenges.
A significant portion of the budget is allocated to capital expenditure, amounting to ₦23.96 trillion, underscoring the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development. Additionally, ₦13.64 trillion is designated for recurrent non-debt expenditures, ensuring the smooth operation of government institutions and public services. However, debt servicing remains a critical concern, with ₦14.32 trillion set aside to manage the country’s growing financial obligations.
While concerns about debt servicing persist, the 2025 budget presents a significant opportunity for Nigeria’s economic transformation. The government’s emphasis on infrastructure, job creation, and public services has the potential to stimulate growth and improve living standards. With effective implementation and revenue generation strategies, this record-breaking budget could pave the way for a more prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria.
@akinde_seun7@Imranmuhdz If you stock in with 1000, will you sell your goods 800? Let factories and downline distribution chain clear their existing inventory first and you'll see the prices adjusting gradually. Nobody wants to do business at a loss.

We did not recommend a reduction in the federal government's share from federation account. Our recommendation is in respect of VAT revenue, to increase the share of states and local governments from 85% to 90% and for states to discontinue with their other forms of consumption taxes which constitute multiple taxation on businesses and individuals.

@OpeBee Better late than never. All the 36 states already crossed this bridge with the adoption of IPSAS, they have been waiting for the big brother (FG) to join them on this path.
One thing that Nigerians must not sweep under the carpet in this Sen. Ningi's accusation is the vagueness of the 2024 budget.
Probe all items in the budget that are not specific, probe specifics of the N500 million they said are for "constituency projects".
