Take the leap! Joining the ecological community might seem daunting at first due to the knowledge and expertise involved, but it is more than possible to learn along the way. The more people involved, the greater the impact we can make.
For those with some recording experience, we can create data summaries/reports/visualisations to guide further recording and learning. We can also assist established recorders in creating London-wide Atlases and connect experts with policymakers and newcomers to share knowledge.
GiGL sits at the core of the ecological community and is able to support individuals throughout their recording journey; we can connect newcomers with established groups to provide support and inspiration, as well as sharing resources, advice and standards for data collection.
#LDN24 Takeaway #3
Engaging with underrepresented groups in and outside the ecological community is vital to inspire future recorders, verifiers and ecological practitioners. This will ensure ongoing awareness and advocacy for the natural environment across all communities.
GiGL is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusivity in its own workstream, collaborating with various groups and organisations to facilitate knowledge sharing. Throughout the year, GiGL participates in and hosts workshops/events to foster these partnerships.
🌿 Today, the GiGL team is at the NBN Conference 2024! @NBNTrust
With the theme 'Making Data Work for Nature,' we're excited to learn from and connect with enthusiasts, conservationists, and ecologists who value environmental data as much as we do! 🐞🐾🐸

Collaboration lies at the heart of the ecological community's strength. By combining our knowledge and resources, we can achieve remarkable outcomes in the ecological sector and beyond, impacting everything from local initiatives to national projects.🌟🌱
GiGL exemplifies this collaborative spirit, boasting a rich history of partnership and shared learning across diverse organisations and sectors. These include environmental NGOs, local governments, academic institutions, community groups, and the general public.
GiGL works closely with the GLA to help ensure a data-driven approach is taken towards London-wide GI policies like the LNRS as well as creating resources for the public to understand how we help to deliver on these policies and inform them of how they can get involved
#LDN24 Takeaway #1
Context is everything! Understanding how projects complement local and national policies and fit within large-scale initiatives can ensure cohesive ecological connectivity, help succeed with funding apps and empower citizens to have their greatest influence.
