There are 2 ways of referring to tea - chai or tea.

The reason is interesting.

Tea came from China & was written "茶" pronounced "cha" in Mandarin but "te" in Fujan.

The countries that got tea from China by land have the "cha" sound. Those that got it by sea have the "te"
