Been noticing this trend on F1twt. It started with Lando last year, and now Kimi is getting the same treatment. Apparently, whoever leads the Driversโ Championship is automatically โluckyโ in the eyes of the masses.
A few things worth remembering
1. Just because it isnโt Lewis or Max fighting for the championship doesnโt mean the driver leading it is any less deserving of it.
2. Kimi has scored points in every race heโs finished this season, with Baku being the exception. You can acknowledge the role of luck in F1 without reducing an entire seasonโs performance to it.
3. Since China, Kimi has been matching and beating George Russell on pace, excluding the races where Georgeโs reliability issues came into play. And letโs not pretend George is some average driver. Heโs an exceptionally talented driver, and consistently going toe-to-toe with him in only your second F1 season is no small achievement.
The potential stops being hypothetical, and the performances start speaking for themselves
