Right message, inaccurate values

1. The total economic value of agricultural produce itself is Rs.40 lac Crores annually.

2. Expected additional expenditure to support MSP is Rs.10 lac Crores annually and not Rs.40 Lac Crores. Even that is a huge value considering that total planned expenditure on an important segment like Infrastructure is Rs.11 lac Crores.

If Minimum Support Price (MSP) is not viable, what’s the alternative?

Price Deficiency Payments (PDP) - entails the farmers to get the difference of market price (MP) and MSP

Under this model:

If MP>MSP - Farmers are getting adequately compensated by the market so no burden to the government

If MP<MSP - Government spend is only MSP-MP and not total MSP as demanded by farmers currently
