According to reports circulating, the 11th Parliament had planned to send a delegation of about 15 MPs and selected senior staff to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. As part of those preparations, Parliament is alleged to have procured 20 VIP hospitality tickets, while each MP was reportedly budgeted close to UGX 100 million for a 39-day trip, including a daily allowance of about US$700, air travel, and other expenses. The trip was reportedly abandoned after investigations into Parliament’s appropriation and accountability processes began, leaving the fate of the alleged VIP tickets unclear.
If these tickets are still available, Parliament should consider donating them to Uganda’s football legends, outstanding local players, coaches, devoted football fans, or representatives from the @TourismBoardUg . They would not only appreciate the opportunity but could also use it to promote Ugandan football and showcase our country on the global stage. That would be a far better use of the tickets than allowing them to go to waste.
