I see you are already struggling to change your tone. You made that dog-whistle about how you subjected Sa’a to cyber-bullying just to scare me, and that is exactly why I had to quickly remind you that you had picked the wrong victim before you embarked on your fool’s errand. I have dealt with bullies far more vicious than you, and I can tell you for free that none of them took a thing from me. So if that was meant to intimidate me, you badly misread both your audience and your own importance.

Secondly, the threat of cyber-bullying or physical violence is not what any rational person would consider a civic right. If you have a grievance against a government, there are constitutionally sanctioned channels through which to demonstrate it, and one of them is the polling booth. But to threaten violence against a government supporter simply because his politics offends you, you must be out of your mind. That is not activism, dissent or civic engagement. It is thuggery packaged as political consciousness.

The point of my take is to show you how democracy works: while you are entitled to your right not to support the government, there are millions of others who do, and their rights do not become inferior because their politics irritates you. Among them are lecturers who have not been on strike and students who have been celebrating the chance to study without themselves or their parents constantly worrying about school fees and upkeep. You may despise their reasons, but you do not get to invalidate their choices. That is democracy, whether or not your ego can accommodate it.
