A LIQUIDITY CRUNCH MAY BE BUILDING IN THE INDIAN STOCK MARKET.
Capital is being absorbed by a relentless wave of IPOs, QIPs and OFS, while FIIs continue their persistent selling. Over the past two years, stocks across several major sectors—including FMCG, IT, Cement, Oil & Gas, Energy and PSUs—have suffered severe declines, with many hitting fresh lows.
Meanwhile, drought-like conditions in parts of the country, a bleak outlook for white-collar employment and persistent inflation are squeezing household budgets, eroding purchasing power and leaving people with less money to save and invest.
The warning signs are hard to ignore. If these pressures persist, domestic investment flows could weaken just when the market needs them most, potentially creating a serious liquidity crunch and putting further pressure on stock prices.
When capital supply keeps rising but the capacity to absorb it weakens, the market's pain can deepen.
Why did RBI raise rates when growth is already under pressure?
Consumption is weak.
Rural incomes are slow.
The economy sure does not seen to be overheating.
So why raise rates now?
The answer goes beyond India.
Global rates, foreign capital and the Rupee all matter.
But what does this mean for the stock market?
And should investors be worried?
I explain the bigger picture in this video - without your getting lost in the jargon.
