@iainaitch It turns out that, even though it made an about turn last time it tried this stunt, Santander still fell foul of FOS: https://t.co/4pHy3GKvy0 (Wish I had known - a fairly easy £100!)
@iainaitch I have read that Santander staff reckon when "took over" Abbey National the forever guarantee was voided. I don't think the ombudsman would be impressed anyway but look at the Companies House documentation - it was just a name change.
If you do have a free business banking account with Santander it may be worth considering this...
Every affected customer could potentially take their complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
This would cost the bank £500 for each customer in FOS administration fees.
@paulc_66@ANHurst@santanderuk@Santander Although a complaint to the ombudsman will cost them £650 per customer.
Must be at least 100,000 free account holders left
Looks like @santanderuk are trying (once again) to fleece the 'free business account for life' customers. Just received a letter saying they are switching me to a new type of account. They last u-turned on this 13 years back. https://t.co/sXPUJMcsWw
@AndieCox_@santanderukhelp@bftwni I won't be paying Santander. They offered free for life and id rather pay someone else the monthly fee that have the rug pulled from me.
@santanderuk Well... Santander is having another go at breaking it's promise of free business banking forever. I don't want a "forced" upgrade, I'm happy where I am.
