I just spent a week working in the UK, and my experience was jarring.
I will preface this by saying that I grew up in Northern Ireland, a place where you can't help but have a stressed relationship with the mainland. Despite this, and despite not having been back to the U.K. since 2017, my experiences this week were still striking.

The most notable difference on this trip was the sheer amount of surveillance on any given street. It genuinely felt like something out of 1984. I couldn't look in any direction without there being a camera looking back. Even when I escaped to the country, every traffic light, train station, and bus stop still had the all-seeing eye watching my every move. Anecdotal accounts from coworkers also informed me that the police use facial recognition cameras on patrol to stop and ID people on the street. It was a very unsettling experience.

The second, more visceral experience was the volume of crime that was now considered just a normal part of life. The day we arrived, there was a knife attack on a train that injured 11 people; the day we left, a fatal knife attack at the train station we were leaving from, and every conversation in between that I overheard almost always referenced how someone was robbed.

Before heading to the UK, I was concerned from my talks with friends and family still living on that side of the Atlantic. Notably, the UKs decisions to start exploring Mandatory Digital IDs, and a Digital Pound (CBDC). Combine my recent experiences with the ability to manipulate and control the supply of money at the micro level, while instantly tracking individuals' source of income, and you have all the tools in place for the kinds of dystopian futures Orwell was writing about.
I worry for the UK and the trajectory that they are currently on. As a Bitcoiner, it's disheartening to see the region I grew up in fall so far from where I left it. I hope Canada learns from these examples and does not follow.

2. Bitcoin is for everyone
3. Education is the silver bullet
It may not be the result that many bitcoiners want but Bitcoin wins on a long enough time horizon. Zoom out๐จ๐ฆ
