On 1 October 2025, @ICwS_SAS, @Warburg_News and @IALS_law will host a special In Conversation event with anti-apartheid activist, writer and former judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa Albie Sachs.
Known for his defiant optimism, Albie Sachs will share his personal experience of overcoming adversity and will offer a few anecdotal memories of his time at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. If you'd like a taster of my new #history#book, #AHistoryOfEnglandIn25Poems, it's going to be Book of the Week on @BBCRadio4, starting Monday 22 Sept. 5 chapters take us from the Battle of Maldon in 991 to today - each a miniature adventure in time travel. I hope you enjoy it!
Albie Sachs in Conversation, 1st October 2025, 4pm-5:30pm, Warburg Auditorium
Join us for a fireside chat with Albie Sachs—anti-apartheid activist, writer, and former judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. In 1988, while recovering from injuries sustained in a car bomb attack in Mozambique, he established the South African Constitutional Studies Centre at the @ICwS_SAS. There, he worked on ideas that helped shape South Africa’s post-apartheid Constitution, widely regarded as one of the most progressive in the world. Known for his defiant optimism, Albie will share personal experience of overcoming adversity and finally, will offer a few anecdotal memories of his time at the @ICwS_SAS.
This event is presented in partnership with @IALS_law and @Warburg_News.
All welcome - This event is free to attend, but booking is required.
