20-Year-Old Phone Seller Arrested After Lagos Police Sergeant Is Crushed to Death

A 20-year-old phone seller, Olusola Olumide, has narrated how he allegedly crushed a police sergeant to death during a stop-and-search operation along Olugbede Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos State.

Police officers had reportedly signalled Olumide to stop, and he initially complied. However, as Sergeant Johnson Okediji approached the driver’s side, Olumide allegedly sped off, knocking the officer down and dragging him underneath the vehicle for several metres despite attempts by police officers and passers-by to make him stop.

Olumide was eventually chased and arrested, while Sergeant Okediji was rushed to hospital with multiple fractures and head injuries. He was later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

This Young Man Reached Out To Me That He And His Friend Were Extorted Of ₦82,000 By Officers Attached To The CPS In Onitsha.

According To Him, They Were Travelling From Asaba When The Officers Stopped The Public Bus They Were In, Brought Them Down And Searched Them. He Says The Officers Also Went Through Their Phones But Found Nothing Incriminating, Yet Insisted On Taking Them To Central Police Station (CPS) In Onitsha. He Said That They Were Handcuffed, Forced Into a White Bus And Taken To The Station, Where They Met Several Other Young Men Illegally Detained. According To His Account, The Officers Threatened And Intimidated Them, Accused Them Of Being “Yahoo Boys” And Prevented Them From Calling Their Families To Inform Them Of What Was Happening.

He Further Revealed That The Officers Recorded Videos Of Them And Forced Them To Say On Camera That They Were “Yahoo Boys” After Threatening Them.

According To Him, The Officers Initially Demanded ₦500,000 For Their Release. After They Pleaded That They Could Not Afford It, He Says The Amount Was Eventually Reduced To ₦80,000, With An Additional ₦2,000 POS Charge.

He Said The Officers Took Them Outside The Police Station To a POS Operator, Where They Were Made To Transfer ₦82,000 Before Their Phones Were Returned And They Were Allowed To Leave.

One Of The Victims Was Unable To Record Everything That Happened, But He Managed To Capture Parts Of The Incident, Including Some Of The Officers Faces, As Well As Evidence Of The ₦82,000 Transfer Made At The POS. @PoliceNG_CRU @PoliceNG
