JOB OPPORTUNITY: Marine Scientist (Tropical Research) - The Smithsonian
https://t.co/vM1GE37fz4
Research emphasis could include marine ecology, evolution, physiology, molecular biology, conservation biology, coastal processes, nearshore oceanography, global change biology or biogeochemistry, with a preference for researchers with interest in tropical, nearshore, field-based research. Candidates whose research spans multiple disciplines are welcomed. The successful candidate will have outstanding opportunities to develop an independent research program, form global collaborations, mentor post-doctoral fellows and graduate students from an international community, collaborate with Smithsonian staff and the Marine Global Earth Observatory (MarineGeo; https://t.co/3sEeKGcF66), and engage an international pool of post- and pre-doctoral fellows, undergraduates and interns with tropical marine biology.

Coastal land subsidence https://t.co/awDsiUTLBr
The study investigates coastal land subsidence which is exacerbating coastal hazards along Ghana's Volta Delta. By 2100, It will increase the Delta's inundated areas by ~10%.

As part of the Decadal re-occupation of the U.S. GO-SHIP meridional hydrographic line known as A13.5 (0°E in the Atlantic Ocean), we deployed some SVPB drifters today in the Southern Ocean. Read about our activities here: https://t.co/4geBwyskM7
My work: https://t.co/oTibv5ujBt
The A13.5 GO-SHIP cruise has successfully completed more than 64 stations with the CTD and deployed 1 Deep Argo float, 8 Biogeochemical-Argo floats, 3 EM-Apex floats, and 10 SVP Drifters.
Stay tuned as they continue collecting crucial data on ocean chemistry within the region!
To start off the “AOML-At-Sea” Takeover, we are highlighting the A13.5 GO-SHIP cruise aboard the R/V Marcus G. Langseth.
Join us as we spend the week diving deeper into the research, what they’re seeing and the scientists at AOML currently on board!

U.S. GO-SHIP (Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program) is seeking graduate students to participate in the upcoming occupation of the hydrographic long-line known as ARC01 (Tromsø, Norway to Juneau, Alaska, ~8 weeks, late-August to late October 2024). (1/2)
Occasionally I see a paper that feels like some kind of forbidden dark magic...🧙
Almar et al. 2024 used tiny time delays between #Sentinel2's spectral bands to model ocean waves... then used those waves to predict water depth/bathymetry!🛰️🌊🤯

After seeing a post from @JumokeOlowoW about agodi forest, I took it upon myself to have a first hand experience of the happening
The image above shows the portion of the Agodi Forest that’s been pulled down for some housing project by the Oyo State Govt.
More footage coming🤞
I am delighted to inform you that next Tuesday (14/11) I will give a presentation at the LOPS (France) at 11am (french time). My presentation will focus on the currents of the European continental slope and shelf, and their connections with regional sea-level variability. 🗣️🌊

In our latest study, we explored the potential of relying on ocean waves as a power source to reduce overdependence on fossil fuels for the countries in the Gulf of Guinea.
