Former Senior Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice (R) Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, has reportedly taken a sharp swipe at Chief Justice Yahya Afridi over his visit to London, where the CJP has been honoured by the prestigious Inner Temple.

Justice Shah, who resigned in protest against the controversial 27th Constitutional Amendment amid growing concerns over judicial independence, has reportedly questioned the celebration in a pointed LinkedIn comment.

His reported remarks cut straight to the heart of the controversy:

“What is the Chief Justice of Pakistan celebrating? Can you please explain?”

He further invoked the historic legal principle:

“I thought Inner Temple’s own motto was, ‘Nolumus leges Angliae mutari’” a commitment to preserving the law and its enduring principles.

THE BIGGER QUESTION: Can judicial honours abroad be celebrated while the independence of the judiciary back home remains under serious scrutiny?
