The answer everyone gives is skin. Here is why that answer is more complicated than your textbook admits.
Skin covers about 8 pounds and 22 square feet of the average adult body. That is genuinely impressive. But the moment you ask "largest by what measure," the textbook answer starts to crack.
The gas-exchanging surface of the lungs has been estimated at 70 square meters, roughly half the size of a singles tennis court. The absorptive mucosal surface of the gastrointestinal tract has been estimated to be the size of an American football field. Skin's 1.8 square meters is not even close on functional surface area.
And by weight? The skeleton accounts for about 14% of human body weight, and skeletal muscle accounts for 42% in the average adult male. Skin, at roughly 5 to 8% of body weight, is nowhere near the top of that list either.
Then in 2018, everything got more interesting.
A team of American medical researchers announced they had discovered a new organ. Anatomists had been studying the human body since ancient times. How could they miss a whole organ? Because it is a very unusual one. It is a network of fluid-filled sacs lined with strong, flexible proteins found under the skin, in the lining of the gut, and around the lungs, blood vessels, and muscles.
Scientists from NYU School of Medicine named this structure the interstitium, potentially the 80th organ, and possibly the largest in the body.
It remained unseen for so long because traditional microscopy techniques, which fix tissues onto slides, did not allow a broad enough view to recognize its existence. We literally could not see it until new imaging tools made it visible.
It is vast, covering as much as 20% of the body's volume by some estimates. Scientists had always known that 20% of body fluids were unaccounted for in a total tally of blood, lymph, and serum. That missing fluid, totalling about 10 litres, is found in the interstitium.
The interstitium may also act as an open pathway, a fluid-moving highway, that cancer cells use to spread, potentially explaining why metastasis increases significantly once the submucosa is compromised by tumors.
The real lesson here: the answer your teacher marked correct in 2005 is now genuinely contested. Human biology is still being written.
π¨ BREAKING: Goodbye, PowerPoint.

"I read and I forget everything."
If youβve heard these words from your child or student, you know the look of defeat on their face. They arenβt lazy or dull, they are just stuck in the cramming trap.
Cramming turns 'A' students into 'D' students and crushes self esteem. But it
@CRonaldoNews@Cristiano@selecaoportugal This will be epic, would probably share a few tears of joy for his sake... Man has been very consistent from the very beginning. I wish him and Portugal all the best
I am not against paying for AI Courses but I strongly think you can learn almost anything with AI.

If you are very good at taking quality photos with your smartphone, this update is for you.
Go to Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, or Getty Images on your Chrome browser and create a free contributor account. It costs nothing.
Then start taking high quality photos of anything and everything around you. The sky. Beautiful places. Trees. Markets. Cars in motion. People walking. Celebrations. Landscapes. Those clean, aesthetic shots that people use for designs, wallpapers, and creative projects.
Upload them. Every time someone downloads your photo, you earn a royalty. You do not have to be present. You do not have to do anything extra. The photo earns for you while you sleep.
Photographers with large portfolios earn between $200 (about 300k Naira) and $2,000 (about 3 million Naira) every month from stock photography alone.
You are already taking photos for fun. You might as well get paid for it.
Do not sleep on this.
Above all, love God.
