Lot of people are circulating this post as to how little has been the increase in India in the fuel prices compared to other countries.
What they are missing is the fact that since our prices never come down when global oil prices were bottoming out, the increase will always "feel less" in percentage terms from an "already high base"
A more realistic view is a long-term view.
Here is a simple 10-year chart - on the percentage increase in petrol prices in some of the major economies and our neighbors.
We are there, almost at the top!

Those sharing charts about which country increased fuel prices by how much are hiding one fact - - - For a decade India bought cheap crude oil while Indians kept paying costly petrol & diesel.

India's avg crude oil price since 2012-13 (US$/bbl):

The avg petrol price in India during 2012–13 was roughly Rs 68–72 per litr while per Barrel avg price was $107.97.

After 2014-15, crude oil prices crashed from $100+ to below $50 per barrel.

Yet people kept paying high petrol-diesel prices becoz the Modi Govt repeatedly increased excise duty instead of passing the full benefit to the public.

I also desire these Godi Media instead of asking urban Babus, go and ask any farmer in Vidarbha or Marathwada about the impact of increased diesel price in their lives. These two regions are where one of the highest numbers of farmers every year...... end their lives.

Man Digs Up Sister’s Grave, Carries Skeleton to Bank to Withdraw ₹20,000

In a heartbreaking case from Odisha's Keonjhar district, 50-year-old tribal daily wager Jeetu Munda exhumed his sister Kalra’s grave three months after her death on Jan 26, 2026. He walked 3 km carrying her skeleton to the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank to withdraw ₹20k from her account. Staff had repeatedly refused him, demanding the account holder appear “in person.” Unaware of death certificate rules, Jeetu took this desperate step. The bank has now cleared immediate release of funds to him as sole claimant.
