I love all the gas deals happening in Nigeria. But no agreement to increase Local/ domestic supply.

I am worried.

Thermal power plants receive only about 40% to 43% of the natural gas( less than 700 million cubic feet of gas daily) they need to run at full capacity. We can’t also tell investors where and how to invest.

However, there is a recent agreement between NNPC, Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), AGPC, and NEPL, to inject up to 800MMscf/d of natural gas into the domestic transportation network. This will serve Nigeria’s power plants, Gas-Based Industries (GBIs), and industrial clusters, significantly enhancing network connectivity and operational flexibility while improving the security of gas supply.

The fields and when the respective projects will start remains unknown.

Nigeria has finished making sacrifices, things will get better soon — President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is on the right path, saying the nation has finished making sacrifices and that peace and development will return.

Tinubu made the statement in a message delivered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, at a special prayer session marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary at the National Mosque, Abuja, on Friday.

The President acknowledged the challenges Nigerians have faced over the years but said the country had matured through its journey since independence.

“This anniversary the 66th by all accounts signifies Nigeria has come of age. The person of 66 years cannot be called a child anymore. Nigeria has become mature, even though when we reflect on the journey from independence to date, we may say it was a mixed journey.

“Nigeria was bedevilled with a lot of issues in the past and opportunities as well. But we thank Almighty Allah for granting us the life and peace for us to witness this very historic event today,” he said.

Tinubu further said his administration was working to address what he described as mistakes and missed opportunities of the past.

“I want to categorically make it clear that Nigeria is on the right path. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Nigeria has finished making sacrifices for this country to be great again,” he said.

He also urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that peace and development would return.

“My message to the country on behalf of the Mr President, the Senate President and all members of the National Assembly is that the citizens should not lose hope. Peace is coming back to this country. Development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” Abbas quoted him as saying.

Tinubu also asked Nigerians to give his administration more opportunity to complete its ongoing work.
