NOT FROM MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA
Contrary to Senator Alan Peter Cayetano's claim, it was not members of the media who applauded and cheered for him during his press conference at the Senate on Thursday, but rather his own staff and several guests in attendance.
"First time akong napalakpakan ng media, walang bayad 'yon," he said after claiming that he had managed to unite various political groups, which he alleged are now aligned with the administration.
Cayetano also maintained that he remains Senate president, despite the recognition by Malacañang and the House of Representatives of Senator Win Gatchalian’s leadership as acting Senate president. | via Malou Escudero/Pilipino Star Ngayon
The Solid Bloc 11 minority senators were present today for the 5 p.m. resumption of session, ready to work, ready to vote on pending bills and ready to keep the Senate running, but the majority led by SP Cayetano chose not to show up.
They did not even have the courtesy to inform us when they ignored the rules, and could not extend the basic decency of telling the minority that they had no intention of convening.
Let us focus on the work, because the Senate has serious business before it, and if the majority wants to protest, deliver privilege speeches or defend its position, the proper place to do that is on the floor, not by making the chamber stand still.
The Senate should open its doors, call the session to order and return to work, because no Facebook post, no appeal to institutional pride and no political drama can erase the basic duty of senators to show up, follow the law and serve the people.
We call on the Filipino people to watch the Senate closely, because when an institution refuses to work, public vigilance becomes the people’s first line of defense.
Grabe.
Indeed, the punishment of wise men is to be ruled by unwise men. Pero marami sila, kaya “men” na rin.
“The people are our bosses. The masa, everybody. The street sweeper, the janitor, the security guard etc. are our boss because they elected us. Our powers emanate from the public so we have to respect that.
Magtatrabaho 'yung construction worker, napaka-init ngayon ng panahon, pumupukpok doon. These are the people paying our salaries, Ms. Karmina, and yet for us in the comforts of our home, airconditioned? We don't need to go to the Senate for session kasi pwede ang teleconferencing, videoconferencing? Kaya nga we objected, nakakahiya!”
The questioning of THE Karmina Constantino and the response of Senator Erwin Tulfo??? LOUDER!!!!
I never voted for Tito Sotto before, but credit where it’s due. I honestly respect what he did last night. Since his comeback, he has been standing for what is right more often, and what happened last night proved it again.
When the Minority senators walked out and the Senate lost quorum, Tito Sotto immediately pointed it out and moved to adjourn the session. Marcoleta tried to argue and question the rules, but Tito Sen shut it down fast with that line: “Akala ko ba magaling sa rules?”
And the thing is, Sotto was absolutely correct based on Senate procedure. The motion to adjourn takes precedence once there’s no quorum. Cayetano couldn’t do anything. Even Loren Legarda, as presiding officer, had no choice but to concede and adjourn the session.
Tito Sotto stood his ground.
Turns out, the “comedian” understood the Senate rules better than all of them. 👏
Get your facts straight, SP Alan!
Magkaiba kami ni Sen. Bato dela Rosa.
Watch @ZyannAmbrosio’s exclusive report. Here, NBI agents were at the GSIS side.
In our interview with OSAA Head Gen Aplasca, he claims there were NBI agents who were at the “edge of senate property” which led them to firing warning shots leading to an exchange.
The CCTV footage will help reveal the truth.
EX-CON-TURNED-SENATOR ROBIN NOW A 'PERSON OF INTEREST' IN BATO'S 'ESCAPE'
Sen. Robinhood Padilla is being treated as a "person of interest" in the investigation into the whereabouts of Sen. Bato Dela Rosa, according to NBI Director Melvin Matibag.
