I extend my warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to Canon Dr. Ida Betty Odinga, E.G.H., on her well-deserved appointment as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations Environment Programme (United Nations Environment Programme).

This appointment is a powerful affirmation of a life lived in principled service to the nation and to humanity. Mama Ida’s journey—as a distinguished educationist, reformist, and fearless advocate for social justice and gender equity—has been defined by uncommon courage, quiet strength, and unwavering conviction. Kenya and the global community will undoubtedly benefit from her moral clarity, intellectual depth, and humane leadership at the multilateral stage.

I also take this opportunity to sincerely thank William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, for recognizing and honoring our matriarch through this appointment. It is a fitting acknowledgment of a daughter of the nation who has served Kenya with distinction and whose voice will now amplify our values, aspirations, and leadership in global environmental governance.

Mama Ida, as you take up this historic responsibility, you carry with you the hopes of a grateful nation and the pride of generations you have taught, inspired, and empowered. We wish you Godspeed and every success as you continue to serve Kenya and humanity with the same courage, wisdom, and unwavering commitment that have defined your remarkable life.

Mombasa must firmly reject the prophets of ethnicity - those who cannot compete on ideas and therefore seek refuge in division. We have come too far and worked too hard to build unity and social cohesion to allow ourselves to be dragged back into the politics of religion, ethnic background, or skin color.

Our future must be contested on vision, competence, and service to the people, not on the false comfort of identity politics.

Towards achieving this, last year, we constructed 45 roads in the county and we are set to complete a further 43 roads this financial year to improve accessibility in Mombasa. Additionally, we are reforming our TVET institutions to give our youth education that is relevant to today’s market needs. Also, my administration will discount single business permits and advertising fees for companies that will employ our youth as an incentive to encourage them to take on more people.

No County has invested more heavily on EDUCATION than Mombasa County, ensuring that NO Child is Left Behind. Our key initiatives in Education include Bursaries, scholarships, a mentorship program during holidays, School feeding Program for our Children & construction of 6 ECD centers among others. Upcoming initiatives include FREE ECD learning for ALL and the University Scholarship Program.

3.⁠ ⁠⁠Fed our school children
4.⁠ ⁠⁠Built over 86 access roads
5.⁠ ⁠⁠Built 6 ECD centers
