Romanian in America ๐ท๐ด๐บ๐ธ
AI, tech, games, guns & everyday absurdity.
Sarcasm, receipts, opinions nobody ordered.
I read the fine print so you donโt have to.
Iโm Romanian, so I grew up believing driving was a competitive sport with occasional paperwork.
Then I moved to Boston and discovered something much more advanced:
Nobody knows what theyโre doing, but everyone is personally offended that you noticed.
The foreign drivers are especially impressive. They arrive from countries with roundabouts, lane discipline, and functioning turn signals. Give them six months on Massachusetts roads and suddenly theyโre crossing three lanes from the far-right lane to make a left, while holding a Dunkinโ cup like it contains classified information.
Boston traffic changes people.
A polite Brazilian becomes a shoulder-checking philosopher. A cautious Korean becomes a freedom fighter at a four-way stop. A Romanian like me sees someone signal and assumes itโs a trap.
The turn signal here isnโt communication. Itโs a confession.
And the driving instructors?
Every Boston driver is trained by the same invisible man who says, โIf you miss the exit, simply reverse on the highway. God will understand.โ
In Romania, people drive aggressively because theyโre in a hurry.
In Boston, people drive aggressively because you looked at them for half a second.
Different cultures. Same beautiful human need to arrive somewhere furious.
Moved from Romania to America and the wildest culture shock wasn't tipping. It's that broke people here still order doordash. In Romania broke means you cook. Here broke means you cook... except tonight.
@SawyerMerritt@wholemars Emmmm I would hook it up to my tesla to voice remote in ๐ maybe give it access to a small bank account and ask to buy something online ๐ maybe it will retire my openclaw bot
