IAM was at the table representing workers’ voices during a business and trade roundtable with Minister Dominic LeBlanc in Milton, alongside MP Kristina Tesser Derksen and leaders from across business, labour, and industry.

From factories and warehouses to hospitals and farms, too many workers in Canada are asked to do essential work in unsafe conditions.

Every year, hundreds are killed on the job. Thousands more are injured.

These tragedies are preventable.

On this National Day of Mourning, we remember every worker who never made it home.

It’s time to enforce the laws we have — and hold corporations accountable when they put workers at risk.

This morning we lost a titan of our movement, Stephen Lewis.

Few have been his equal in the advancement of democratic socialism in Canada, or of human rights, compassion and equality on the global stage.

Stephen’s legacy is eternal and our party will honour it by carrying on his commitment to justice and dignity for every human life. We will keep alive the flame of hope for a better society that burned bright throughout his life.

Yes, in our lifetime.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day honours and remembers the children who were forced into Canada's Residential School system.
It was first observed as Orange Shirt Day in 2013 and was elevated to a statutory holidy for federal workers in 2021.
