The Zohran Mamdani administration has banned hidden hotel fees and unexpected credit card holds in New York City.
The new rule requires hotels to clearly show the full price of a stay upfront, including all mandatory fees, and to disclose any credit card holds or deposits in advance. City officials say the change comes after hundreds of consumer complaints and is expected to save travelers millions of dollars. The rule takes effect in New York City on February 21, 2026.
If you book a hotel for $200, you should pay $200.
