The Chinese public, in general, views Serbia favourably. There are only a few nations the Chinese would call "iron-clad" friends; Serbia may be the only European nation we'd refer to as such.
Serbia is an important friend of China:
🇷🇸 it is China’s 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 comprehensive strategic partner in Central and Eastern Europe;
🇷🇸 it is China’s 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 free trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe;
🇷🇸 it is the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 European country to offer “real” visa-free entry to Chinese citizens;
🇷🇸 it is one of the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 European countries to sign a cooperation agreement with China regarding the "Belt and Road Initiative".
In 2023, China was Serbia’s largest source of foreign investment and its second largest training partner.
The Chinese have completed 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 "𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿" 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗮, demonstrating our two nations' friendship and the Chinese people's desire for our Serbian friends to better their country:

Built in 1913, the Smederevo Steel Plant was once “Serbia’s pride”, which employed more than 5,000 workers and contributed 40 per cent of the city’s revenue.
The steel plant was hit hard during the financial crisis in 2008, and only one blast furnace remained in bare production. In 2012, the situation got worse when foreign companies announced their withdrawal. The Serbian government reclaimed ownership of the plant and slashed workers’ wages twice to keep the plant going.
In 2016, China’s largest steelmaker, the HBIS Group, signed an agreement with the Serbian government to acquire the Smederevo Steel Plant for 46 million euros. In the next eight months, the steel plant that had run at a loss for seven consecutive years reached its highest level since 2010.
It is now one of the three biggest export companies in Serbia.

"There is a saying in China: 'To get rich, first build roads.' Thanks, Chinese friends, for their continuous support," said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during the opening ceremony of the Belgrade - Surcin section on April 1, 2023.

The Hungary-Serbia railway spans 341.7 kilometres, with 183.1 kilometres in Serbia and 158.6 kilometres in Hungary.
Once operational, the project will reduce travel time between the capitals of Hungary and Serbia, Budapest and Belgrade, respectively, from 8 hours to 3 hours.
The trains are distributed power electric multiple units, consisting of 20 train cars. Each train has four cars and can operate at a top speed of 200 kilometres per hour.
They are scheduled to be put into use by 2025.

The Zemun-Borca Bridge in Serbia is the first major bridge project constructed by a Chinese company in Europe. It has the nickname “Chinese Bridge.” The Serbian government planned to build the bridge as early as 2007, but a lack of funding delayed the project.
The 1,499-meter bridge opened to traffic in 2014. The bridge has shortened the commuting time of residents on both sides of the Danube River by at least one hour.
When building the bridge, the Chinese company CRBC employed 400 locals, about three times the number of Chinese workers, and helped Serbia train its technicians and project managers.
China passed a law on a ‘shared’ national identity among the country's 55 ethnic minority groups, a move critics say will further erode the identity of people who are not majority Han Chinese and risk making anyone challenging that ‘unity’ a separatist punishable by law https://t.co/vEWSzvQShL
