DR Congo,
I have no words. You have made all of Africa proud.
You deserve to qualify more than us assuredly. We wouldn’t have played like this.
You didn’t even sit back, you created many chances against a top side like Portugal.
Thank you DRC.
i don't care what the scoreboard says right now. seeing DR Congo stand toe to toe with Portugal on the biggest stage in world football has me in tears.
people only see 45 minutes. we see decades. decades of being overlooked, written off, forgotten whenever football conversations happened. and yet here we are. our flag, our anthem, our players wearing the shirt with pride against one of the giants of the game.
every tackle feels personal. every clearance feels heroic. every attack makes my heart stop.
for some countries a world cup match is routine. for us it's history. it's proof that kids kicking a ball in Kinshasa can dream just as big as anyone else.
whatever happens in the second half, i'm already proud.
allez les léopards. today an entire nation is dreaming together. 🇨🇩
England v Croatia is the World Cup’s only group-stage match where both countries have a UNESCO World Heritage Site named after a Roman emperor.
England has Hadrian’s Wall. Croatia has Diocletian’s Palace in Split.

Woke up at 3am to watch Lionel Messi.
Got work in an hour.
One day, there won’t be any more 3am alarms to watch him play.
That’s why it’s always worth it.
