I know people will look at me and say I’m only choosing him because of our history together, but that’s not the reason.

Ole understood Manchester United. He knew the expectations, he knew the culture, and most importantly, he showed that he could build a team capable of competing near the top.

He finished third and then second in the Premier League, reached a Europa League final, and there were periods where you could genuinely see the foundations of a very good team being built.

The biggest mistake was that we never gave him enough time to complete the rebuild.

Look at Arsenal and Arteta. They stuck with him through difficult periods, allowed him to develop his squad and eventually gave him the time to build something.

That’s what I would have wanted for Ole.

Instead of constantly changing managers and starting again, Manchester United needed to pick a direction, back the manager and give him the time to make it work.

So if you’re asking me who I would have trusted with that long-term project, I’d choose Ole.” 🔴
