I have been dating this guy for over 2 years now, and whenever I tell him โ I love youโ, his response is always โLover girlโ. Is that normal๐ฅน?
Trying to educate Nigerians about their economic and geopolitical context is like trying to educate a door about trees.
They don't believe that they matter or that they should be interested in protecting their own interests. Deep down, they don't believe that Nigeria is part of the world. They think Nigeria inhabits a separate, less important world that starts at Jibiya and ends at Seme.
The only time they connect what is happening in the outside world to their own individual context is when it is time to get a visa with which to escape the giant Nigerian open-air prison.
These 200 million humans have been subjected to aggressive social engineering over several decades, resulting in a giant West African blob of humanity that exhibits the most terrifying and visually striking manifestations of nihilism, individual and group self-hatred, low self esteem, total absence of self knowledge, and repeated patterns of self-harming behaviour.
Trying to educate such people about their place in the world is like explaining to the door how it went from being a majestic living organism in a forest to becoming a small, flat panel of polished, dry wood. It simply cannot understand. Worse still, the door happens to be able to talk, and so it constantly and habitually expresses its chronic non-comprehension in a manner that is both extremely loud and profoundly, shockingly stupid.
Always.
On top of that, when it was being processed from a log of timber into a wood panel, the door was indoctrinated with the Gospel of Tree-sus according to Saint Door-othy or the faith of I-Slam according to Prophet Ras-Al-Door, both of which teach that someday all doors with faith will go to Door Heaven, where the roads are paved with wood polish and nobody ever slams a door.
Imagine trying to educate a door about geopolitics.
It's a difficult, thankless job, but somebody has to do it.
