It has never been this bad for Nigeria's Agriculture.

In all of my years of practicing we hit a new low this season. Our complaints for the past 10yrs none has been solved now we have fresh issues.
- Insecurities abound
- The roads are worn out
- Capital investment at an all time low
- No farm laborers

Current problems
- Climate change
- Overpriced inputs
- unbelievable cost of production

Imagine climate change affecting crops (no rain) and you decide to set up irrigation for your farm using petrol generator.

To buy a litre of petrol is now N1,100, when you harvest the same crops how much will you be selling it? What gain is there? Is this really how we'll be doing agriculture?

The most annoying thing is - No one is even saying anything from the Agric ministry. Everywhere just quiet.

Mechanization is really the future of Africa’s agriculture.

Figures seen from the #HeiferMechanization4Africa Report launched today show that 77% of the over 21k smallholder farmers provided PAYG access to tractors see manual labour costs per hectare as double that of tractor rental.

Let me break it down - for example you pay 120k per hectare for manual labour but with the PAYG tractor provided by @Heifer for farmers in Africa only cost the farmer 60k reducing the cost of operations by 50%.
