I am an American citizen, proud to be an American citizen, who loves my country, and loves India so much. But this is so true, and accurate. India is running. Yes, India is running high. Just a brilliant analysis @palkisu
Reservation; a detailed but simplified explanation:
Today, the Haryana govt under @mlkhattar has announced #Reservation in promotion for SC/ST community.
As usual and expected, I see a surge in posts related to reservation. As usual, most are against reservation but some are also in support of reservation. The posts that are anti- reservation usually come from some doctors or finfluencers or tech graduates, who have probably, as is evidend from their posts, not read anything to understand the concept of reservation.
Let us understand the basic points that is most debated and questioned when the policy of reservation is discussed.
Question 1: Why Reservation is based on caste and not based on economic condition of a family?:
Ans: Reservation is based on caste as the communities faced caste bssed discrimination in the past. A poor Brahmin or a poor Thakur was still respected by everyone. He was not stopped from taking water from rivers or denied entry into temples because he was poor. A dalit or "untouchable" was denied basic rights because of his caste. So, if discrimination was based on caste, the policy of affirmative action should also be based on caste. A poor Brahman and a poor "untouchable" were not equal.
Ques 2: Why are children of today's generation being "punished" for something that was done hundreds of years back?
Ans: In law, there are 2 basic types of cases. Civil case and criminal case.
Criminal case consists of cases like rape, murder etc. Civil cases consists of cases like land rivalry etc. Let us understand both with examples. In criminal case, suppose a man murdered another man 50 years back. The killer's son cannot be punished for the crime committed by his father. This is how criminal case works. The original killer will only be punished, not his family or children.
But, in civil cases, suppose a man grabbed someone's land by forgery. After his death, the land was passed on to his son. But after few years, the court decided that the original owner of land was someone else. So the land will be taken from the son and transferred to original owner. This is an example of civil case.
Caste based reservation is a civil issue, not a criminal issue.
Ques 3: We should provide better schools and infrastructure to backward and poor people, not reservation.
Ans: Reservation is not a poverty removal program. It is being given to bring communities which lack proper representation in a lot of fields.
For example, suppose the upper caste population of India is 15%. But they occupy over 60% govt jobs. And the 85% population which is OBC/ SC/ ST, occupy less than 40% jobs. This is situation in almost all the fields. You can check this in your own field/ office/ college also. Now imagine, if 15% population occupies 60% seats, what kind of country and society are we actually making and how long will this system thrive? Also, what is the reason behind this 15% population occupying 60% seats? If you genuinely love this country, seek these answers honestly.
Ques 4: Reservation kills merit, reservation should not be there in medical colleges etc.
Ans: Reservation does not kill merit. Reservation just take you to the starting line of race. There is no reservation in college exams. The reservation ends at entrance exams. Once you take admission in college, you are on your own.
You do not become doctor by clearing entrace exam. You become doctor by clearing college exams. And there is no reservation in the college exams. Everyone takes same exam, score same passing marks and earn degree to become doctor.
Also, people say, reservation leads to talented Indians migrating to USA and becoming CEOs of biggest MNCs. Well, the question here is not whether Indians leave India because of reservation. The question is what is USA doing that it attracts talents from around the world whether it is Satya Nadella from India or Elon Musk from South Africa. What makes USA so special and success friendly is the right question to ask.
These are some basic questions that anti- reservationists keep bringing to our timelines. I request them to stop blaming reservation for their failures and work harder for their success.

Genuine question raised by salaried individual:
If my income is 1 Cr, I will pay Tax of Around 40 Lakhs to government.
But then also I will not use government facilities like Hospitals or school etc.
Now what if I loose my job and my income dropped to Zero. What will government do for me. What did I get?
