SENATOR FADAHUNSI RODE ON ADELEKE'S POPULARITY
In a recent interview, Governor Ademola Adeleke stated that his popularity contributed significantly to Senator Francis Fadahunsi's victory in 2019. Some people doubted that claim, but a look at history tells an interesting story.
Let's remind ourselves:
• 2011 – Fadahunsi contested for Senate and lost to Babajide Omoworare of ACN.
• 2015 – He contested again under the PDP and lost to the APC candidate.
• 2019 – He won the Osun East Senatorial seat.
• 2023 – He was re-elected for a second term.
So, what changed in 2019?
In 2017, a political wave swept across Osun State. Senator Ademola Adeleke contested a by-election and won against all odds. He defeated an established political structure despite opposition from powerful stakeholders and a ruling party firmly in control of the state and federal.
That victory awakened hope among many Osun citizens. It was seen as a people's victory, and it energized PDP supporters across the state.
The momentum continued into the 2018 governorship election. Adeleke became the PDP candidate and, despite the odds, won the election before it was declared inconclusive. Even Omisore splitted his votes. The legal battle that followed did not stop Adeleke from campaigning and mobilizing support for the PDP across Osun then.
At that time, PDP had no Senator and only two House of Representatives members. Yet, in the 2019 elections, the party won a Senate seat, three House of Representatives seats, and four House of Assembly seats.
It is difficult to ignore the role the Adeleke wave played in that transformation.
Fadahunsi defeated Ajibola Famurewa in 2019, and by 2023, after Adeleke had become Governor, the PDP went on to dominate elections across the state. Fadahunsi comfortably secured re-election.
Nobody is saying others did not contribute. Politics is a collective effort. However, some influences are bigger than others, and history should be acknowledged as it happened.
Governor Adeleke also demonstrated this influence when he joined the Accord Party. In a short time, a party many considered unpopular suddenly became a major force and a source of concern for the APC. To the extent that the allegedly sponsor a candidate and even want the party deregistered.
As 2027 approaches, the candidate challenging Senator Fadahunsi is a first-time senate contender running under a party that was once considered politically insignificant.
The best way to settle every argument about popularity is simple: allow a free, fair, and transparent election, and let the people decide.
History matters. Records matter. Let us always get the facts straight.
“THEY WANTED THIS GOVERNMENT TO FAIL, BUT THEY HAVE FAILED” "I am not surprised by the actions of the Osun APC. Propaganda is what they know best. For nearly two years, local government allocations were not released as they should have been, and those responsible diverted the funds to their so-called 'Yes or No' chairmen. They will ultimately answer for their actions before the law. Their objective has been to see this administration fail, but they have not succeeded and they will not succeed. Despite all distractions, our government remains focused on delivering on its mandate to the people of Osun State." — Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“In the coming days, Ekiti and Osun States will hold elections. I urge INEC, security agencies, and all parties to ensure these polls are peaceful and credible. Democracy fails when citizens doubt the process.”

Thank you Mr. President.
Can I call your attention to the issue of local government financial autonomy as it still remains a mirage in the country. And even inactive in Osun State as the council are a currently occupied illegally by some imposters.
Fellow Nigerians
Today, we celebrate democracy and the enduring Nigerian spirit. For 27 unbroken years, since May 29, 1999, Nigerians have chosen their leaders through the ballot, witnessed peaceful transitions of power, and resolved disagreements in courtrooms and legislative chambers—not through violence. We have experienced the longest stretch of civilian rule in our history. Our democracy is not perfect, but it is ours, and we must continue to defend and strengthen it.
