@iamlambda 'What’s the point of life? Is it worth living? Can fulfilment, meaning, even joy be found in it? These are the questions that Ecclesiastes grapples with. It does so adopting a rather eccentric style of writing known as ‘pessimism literature’...' from https://t.co/okjHM9krgV).
Great conversation between @iamlambda and @Philosophi_Cat on this year’s Gauntlet.
The topic of “RETVRN” came up. Cat made a great point that those trying to revive the traditions of old may suffer “blowback” by unleashing forces they aren’t equipped to handle or understand.
I think this is exactly what happened to Jordan Peterson. He tried to revive the role of prophet, but approached God, Christ, and the Word as symbols and allegories, with no appreciation for Their actual power. If one calls upon the name of God, expect an answer, and pray it isn’t a rebuke. Dr. Peterson wasn’t equipped for the repercussions from such Forces, because he lacked respect for Them. He subsequently had a physical and emotional breakdown, and now he cries on screen constantly. There’s a lesson there.
Thanks to both for the entertaining discussion. Hope to hear one again next year.
In case you missed it, I recently appeared on an episode of @iamlambda's yearly game show, The Gauntlet! It was great fun, go have a listen. And while you're there, check out the rest of this year's episodes, featuring many other notable and interesting characters.
Was a great pleasure talking with Luke for The Gauntlet, on a wide variety of topics across philosophy, morality, and religion,
and on the dangers of false technicalising pragmatist thinking cutting off contact with Truth who is He.
