Filipinos continue to face some of the highest electricity prices in Southeast Asia, driven largely by the country’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels.

From 2023 to 2026, the Philippines ranks second only to Singapore in average electricity prices. Both countries are the only ones in the region with rates exceeding ₱10 per kilowatt-hour, with Singapore at about ₱14.4 and the Philippines at roughly ₱12.8 per kWh.

Because more than half of the country’s power plants depend on coal and imported fuel, global conflicts, fuel shortages, and peso–dollar fluctuations quickly translate into higher electricity costs.
