Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?
For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir, which according to the UN, amounts to torture and which is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health.
He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.
The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.
He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.
Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.
Yet those orders are being defied.
This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.
He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.
His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls.
I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father.
@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court; restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.
Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government to please now do the right thing.
We urge Pakistani authorities to unconditionally restore Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Khan’s right to see their family and lawyers.
Both must be given access to adequate medial care and their solitary confinement, which is unlawful, should end immediately.

@HowardFarran Blimps rent attention. SEO owns it.
A #1 Maps ranking in your zip code doesn’t expire when the blimp flies home. It compounds. Reviews stack. Visibility grows. And you can actually track whether it produced a patient or just a photo.
Be the blimp that never leaves.
If I were a dentist, here is exactly how I would run my SEO.
First things first. Your Google Business Profile is your number one asset. Not your website. Not your Instagram. Your GBP.
Most organic leads for dentists are going through the map pack right now. Google is showing ads, then the 3 pack, then websites. If you are not in that top 3, you basically don't exist.
The lifetime value of a dental patient is somewhere between 3k and 5k. If you spend 2k a month on SEO and your agency brings you literally 1 new patient, you break even. Bring in 10 and you do the math.
Here is what I would do from day one.
Pick the right category. Search "dentist" in your city and look at what the top 3 profiles have listed as their category. Match it. If your category says "dental clinic" and everyone ranking above you says "dentist", change it today.
Fill out your entire profile. I am talking description, services, products section, Q&A, everything. Get as close to the 750 character limit on your description as possible. Include your target keyword and city naturally.
"Voted the most trusted dentist in Scottsdale" is better than "We are a dental office that provides comprehensive dental services to patients of all ages."
One tells Google what you do and where. The other says nothing.
Now reviews. This is the big one.
If I were a dentist I would have an iPad at the front desk. Patient finishes their cleaning, you hand them the iPad, review link is already pulled up. Eliminate every ounce of friction.
I would also personally call every single patient I have ever seen. Not to sell them. Just to check in. Ask how they are doing. And at the end of the call, ask for a review.
You should be getting 2 to 3 reviews a week minimum. Not as a sprint. As a system. Something your front desk does every single day without thinking about it.
Want to know how many reviews you need? More than every competitor in your area. That's it. That's the number.
But here is the thing most people miss. Review momentum matters more than review count. Having 200 reviews is one thing. Having 200 reviews and still adding a dozen a month is a completely different animal. The algorithm rewards freshness.
Now your website.
Your homepage is the most powerful page on your site. Treat it that way. Target your main keyword and city on the homepage.
Meta title should be front loaded. "Dentist in Austin" first, then your practice name.
Not "Smile Bright Dental" and then your keyword buried at the end.
H1 tag needs to include your keyword and location. 500 words of quality copy on the page. Address in the footer. Phone number visible without scrolling.
That is literally 80% of on page SEO for a local business.
Do not waste time writing blog posts about the history of fluoride. Nobody is reading that. You want buyers on your website, not browsers.
Instead of blogs, build location pages.
If you serve 4 or 5 suburbs around your main city, each one gets its own page. Each page targets that specific location with unique copy, not the same page with the city name swapped out.
/dallas-dentist
/plano-dentist
/frisco-dentist
More cities equals more money.
Now backlinks.
You do not need thousands of links. You need the right ones. Local links from real entities in your area.
Chamber of Commerce. Local charities. Community sponsorships. University partnerships.
I work with a dentist who speaks at the university near him twice a semester. After every speech, 15 to 20 dental students approach him. He spends a minute or two with each of them and in exchange asks for a Google review. That is a free 30 to 40 reviews a year from people who actually exist.
Get listed on Yelp, Bing, Apple Maps, YellowPages, BBB. Make sure your name, address, and phone number are identical across every single listing. Inconsistent information crashes local SEO performance.
Here is where most dentists leave money on the table.
Stop optimizing only for "dentist near me." Average lifetime value of a dental patient is 3 to 5k. What if you also optimized for "veneers near me"? Or "dental implants" in your city?
You could rank for both terms at the same time. But the veneers patient is worth 10x more.
The best SEO campaigns are unbelievably specific. "Cosmetic dentist" instead of just "dentist." You can dominate both, but the high ticket term is where the real revenue sits.
One more thing.
Answer your phone.
You would not believe how many times I have seen a dentist double their inbound call volume from Google and then say they don't see the value. We dig in and find out they are missing 40% of their calls.
Someone is literally searching "dentist near me" right now. If you don't pick up, they are calling the next person in the 3 pack.
Speed to lead is everything.
Dentistry is one of the easiest industries to rank for. First page of Google for dentists in most cities is filled with sites that have a domain rating of 1 or 2. The competition has not taken SEO seriously at all.
A physical address, the correct category, consistent citations, regular updates, and a high review velocity. That is 90% of the algorithm for the map pack.
